A HOLYWOOD-based flute band has been congratulated on marking its 125th anniversary, during a mayoral reception in Bangor City Hall.
The event for Ballykeel Conservative Flute Band, hosted by Mayor of Ards and North Down Alistair Cathcart, was attended by North Down MLA Stephen Dunne.
Mr Dunne said he was ‘delighted’ to have assisted with arranging the ‘special and very well-deserved’ reception, and described the band’s 125th anniversary as a ‘remarkable achievement’.
The MLA said the band was a ‘real part of the local community, with many strong family connections through several generations’.
He added: “The band has been entertaining the local community with their sharp drill and excellent musicianship since 1900. They are a regular feature at community events throughout the year such as Holywood May Day, Remembrance Day and the Twelfth of July celebrations.
“They have a strong family ethos and a real commitment to investing in their members and promoting the benefits of learning an instrument within the local community.”
Mr Dunne thanked the mayor for facilitating the reception, and wished the band well for the years ahead.
