EMERGENCY volunteer organisation K9 has received a cash boost from supermarket chain Spar, to enable it to continue its specialist, lifesaving work.
K9 Search and Rescue NI, which recently deployed to help the Venezuelan earthquake relief, has been given £1,000 from this year’s Spar Community Cashback Grant.
The Bangor based volunteer group will use the grant to purchase a new engine for the organisation’s operational boat.
The boat is an integral part of K9’s emergency arsenal, and plays a vital role in water-based searches for missing people.
The charity’s volunteers give countless hours to training, callouts and community engagement, ensuring operational readiness at all times.
Recently, a team from the local group recently travelled to Venezuela to help victims of the earthquake that has devastated the country.
Bethany Priestly from Spar NI described each store as ‘a hub for our local communities’ , with the grant scheme being ‘a vital source of income for many organisations that our shoppers care about’.
“K9 Search & Rescue provides support for families at their worst moments, providing the expertise to make a difference and bring some light to an unthinkable situation,” she said.
She said the company was delighted the grant would help the rescuers ‘sustain and grow its services’.
