THIS year’s popular Sea Bangor programme has been launched as next month’s nautical festival marks the landmark 80th anniversary of the D-Day Landings.
The momentous wartime event will be celebrated with a 1940s themed catalogue of events, promising a host of musical treats, food and children’s entertainment over the weekend of June 1st and 2.
Sea Bangor always brings a nautical flavour to the city, and this year will feature funfair rides, beach activities for the kids and music to fuel the nostalgia of the 1940s, with a lively mix of the era’s favourite hits taking place at Bangor’s Quay Street car park.
Entertainment will be provided by the Leading Ladies and Soda Popz. The Leading Ladies are billed as Northern Ireland’s premier vocal harmony trio and are an award-winning outfit who have been performing a broad range of musical styles for 20 years.
The sensational Soda Popz will add to the atmosphere with their high energy, nostalgic rock ‘n roll show, while The Bangor singers and other local musicians will provide an authentic tribute to the fabulous hits of the 1940s.
Foodies can flock to Eisenhower Pier where there will be a host of culinary shows at the ‘Demo Kitchen’, where budding chefs from South Eastern Regional College will create tasty dishes using fresh, local produce.
A range of delicious treats will also be on sale from local food and drink stalls, including hot food trucks and ice cream to cool down with, while an outdoor bar will also be provided.
Adding to the occasion will be lots of friendly rivalry in the annual rowing competition on Saturday 1 June, from noon to 2.30pm, where local teams will battle it out to secure the prestigious rowing cup.
