Bangor amateurs v Killyleagh YC

NAFL DIVISION 1B BANGOR AMATEURS 4 KILLYLEAGH YC 3BANGOR

Amateurs had to overcome every possible adversity to earn a fantastic result at home to Killyleagh YC on Saturday.

The game had a bit of everything: goals, drama and a never-say-die attitude. After Killyleagh striker Stephen Kennedy gave the visitors the lead on the half-hour mark  and goalkeeper Kieran McKenna was shown a red card just before half-time, the Amateurs had a mountain to climb. But their response was admirable, battling back to lead 2-1 early in the second half with goals from Raul Zabrauteanu and Ryan McCurdy. After being pegged back by a second Kennedy goal on the hour, the Amateurs moved ahead again through Kian Storey, only for Killyleagh to level it once more with a Peter Russell finish. It was in stoppage time that the moment of the match arrived. Defending a late Killyleagh corner, Jamie Turner – back in an Ams shirt again – denied what looked a certain goal with a crucial back-post header, Zabrauteanu picked up the loose ball and found Jack Shaw, who released Storey. With just the ’keeper to beat, he showed brilliant composure to slot home from a tight angle and send the home crowd wild.
