AN emotional appeal has been made after three feral cats disappeared from Bangor’s seafront.
For over a decade, a small group of volunteers has been feeding and providing care, including veterinary treatments, for the group of cats who have made an area of Queen’s Parade their ‘home’.
One of the volunteers, Dennis Cassidy, explained how he had fed the group – which is defined as a destruction – at 3pm on Friday, March 6. The following day, another volunteer visited the cats, and noticed three of them were missing.
The trio – two males and a female – have not been seen since, and the volunteers are now offering a reward for their safe return.
It is believed there are currently 11, fully-grown cats, living in the area on the seafront.
The volunteer group administers a Facebook page, ‘Bangor Seafront Cats’, and has posted there is a ‘substantial cash reward’ for the return of the cats, or for information as to their current whereabouts.
The Facebook post reads: “We are satisfied that the cats are no longer at this location and now believe that they were abducted. “Primarily we are hoping that anyone who happened to be in the vicinity of the TKMaxx/wasteground car park between the hours of 3.30pm on Friday [March 6] and 10pm the following day, noticed anyone hanging around or acting suspiciously.”
Dennis stressed as the cats, all adults, are feral, they are not suitable as pets; if someone has taken the cats to care for them, it is highly unlikely they will stay, and will try and make their way back to the territory which is familiar to them.
