Dundonald, Northern Ireland – After more than four decades of dedicated service in health and social care, Raymond Gamble, the highly respected Laboratory Manager at the South Eastern Health & Social Care Trust, has officially retired.

Raymond’s career began in September 1982 as a Biomedical Scientist at the Royal Victoria Hospital in Belfast. Over the years, his leadership and expertise led him to become Section Head in Clinical Biochemistry, before taking on the role of Laboratory Manager at Ulster Hospital in 2011.

Honouring a Career of Dedication and Impact

Raymond’s retirement was marked by a heartfelt celebration attended by family, colleagues, and senior Trust officials, who came together to honour his exceptional contributions to laboratory services across Northern Ireland.

“I have so many special memories within the Trust,” said Raymond. “The people I’ve met along the way have been amazing. I’m looking forward to a new chapter and spending more time with my family.”

A Leader in Innovation and Patient-Focused Care

Raymond played a key role in advancing regional working practices, most notably through his work on the Encompass Project, a major initiative designed to modernize and digitize healthcare systems across the region.

“Raymond’s work on Encompass was outstanding,” said Maggie Parks, Director of Surgery, Elective Care and Maternity Services at the South Eastern Trust.
“His contribution over the past 14 years has left a lasting legacy. He will be greatly missed.”

Leaving the Lab in Good Hands

Dr Kathryn Ryan, Consultant Chemical Pathologist, echoed the sentiment, praising Raymond’s leadership and mentorship:

“He’s always been focused on patient care and building up the lab team. Thanks to his support, many staff have stepped into senior roles. He leaves the Ulster Labs stronger than ever.”

What’s Next?

As Raymond begins his well-earned retirement, he’s looking forward to quality time with loved ones, embracing a new pace of life after decades at the forefront of Northern Ireland’s healthcare system.
