RICKY Gardiner, Fred Cooley and Michael Walker were amongst the players recognised as Bangor FC Walking Footballers held their biggest-ever Christmas lunch and prize giving event in Bowbells, Donaghadee at the weekend.
To loud cheers, Ricky won the player of the year award for a second time. Runner-up in the blue riband category was Fred Cooley, who brings his vast Irish league experience into the walking football arena and also represents Northern Ireland in their very successful over 70s side.
The clubman of the year award was another repeat winner with Michael Walker deservedly rewarded for his tireless efforts to drive the club forward.
David McEachern picked up the top scorer award with eight goals in tournaments throughout the season, Norman Crooks and Peter Clarke were recognised for improvements they have made to their game, Tony Kerr claimed goal of the season for a stunning finish in a match at a wet and windy Carrickfergus while Alan Storer from Glasgow was named as international player of the year.
Team sponsor and Pier 36 proprietor Jody Waterworth was presented with a training top by former Bangor FC centre half Ian Jaffrey.
As well as celebrating the achievements of the players, Bangor FC Walking Footballers also heard reports on the many social and charity events that had taken place during the season which had all been very well supported.
