Ward Park Runners welcome back co-founders
MEMBERS of Ward Park Runners welcomed back the two founding coaches of the club, ‘Big Ivan’ Prue and Charise Boal, on Monday evening.
First established in 2017, Ward Park Runners started out with a group of Couch-to-5k graduates who wanted to further improve their running under Ivan’s careful watch. Members of the club were reminded of the early days as Ivan travelled down from the north coast, just to take one of the club’s interval sessions.
And on Monday, runners once again took Ivan’s favourite mottos on board: ‘Run for Fun’ and ‘always listen to your body’.
Parkrun championships
THE club’s fourth parkrun championships, which took place over 12 weeks, concluded recently with Andy Le Gallez taking the top spot in the series.
This was largely achieved by Andy participating in nine parkruns out of a possible 12, regularly volunteering and by securing seven PBs in total.
In second place was Nicola McKenna, the amazing volunteer coordinator at Bangor parkrun, whose role is virtually a full-time job.
The junior trophy was won by the ever-smiling Tilly Heaney, who ran and volunteered at nine parkruns while completing important exams.
The Ward Park coaching team is offering a 5k to 10k progression programme to members and non-members this summer and autumn.
Running for nine weeks between July 29 and September 28, the programme will culminate in the Bangor 10k.
Visit the club’s Facebook page for more details on regular training sessions and the progression programme sessions.
