BANGOR City Warriors Basketball Club have been crowned league champions at the first time of asking.

They haven’t yet been in existence for a year, but victory over BC Wolves in the Basketball Northern Ireland Division One ‘Championship Game’ on Sunday saw the Warriors make it a campaign to remember.

The co-venture of former Scottish international Nick Compton and American Mac Hill, who joined forces after concluding there was little provision for the sport in the local area, the Warriors first arrived on the basketball scene here in June 2023.

The Bangor club’s journey is just getting started, and it’s not just at senior level that they are flourishing either with teams operating at various younger age groups.

Away from their league triumph, the Warriors were denied a potential silverware double when they were edged 71-66 by Tyrone Towers in the final of the BNI Men’s Plate competition at the end of last month.
