BANGOR will lift the Championship trophy at Clandeboye Park this Saturday afternoon.
The curtain will come on a successful season for the Seasiders as they look to celebrate their league title with a victory over Dundela (3pm kick-off) before Lee Feeney’s side head to the Premiership next season.
After securing the league title last weekend, Feeney admits that the reality of what he and his players have achieved hasn’t yet sunk in – but he knows just what it means for Bangor supporters.
“I’m honestly so chuffed for everyone,” he admitted.
“You could see in the faces of everyone involved at the club what it meant on Saturday afternoon and that was special.
“I know how much work the Board and the volunteers put in around the club and to reward them and our supporters who follow us everywhere was so pleasing.
“And the players deserve so much credit for this success,” he said. “They have had a great season and the shift they put in on Saturday epitomised their work ethic all season.
“The boys were so professional and they worked their socks off to get the win.”
The Bangor manager was without his regular pairing at the heart of his defence. But a back four which consisted of arguably two full backs and two natural midfielders stood up to the threat posed by the league’s second top scoring team.
“It was a great way to win a title,” reflected Feeney.
“Going to your title rivals’ ground and having to dig out a really good performance was a great way to do it.
“I’m glad we won it on our terms and I’m delighted in the manner we did it.
“In some ways I was happy that it was a narrow win, because they feel even better at full-time. Especially when the boys have worked so hard for 90 minutes.”
He continued: “Our defence was outstanding to a man. As a team we defended really well, and that came from the front where Ben Arthurs and Mick Morgan closed everything down for us.
“The midfield did their job brilliantly and the defence was first class. Both Caomhan McGuinness and Liam Hassin are very intelligent and versatile footballers and they were fantastic in the roles they were given in the middle of the defence.”
